Located midway between New York City and Niagara Falls in west central New
York State, The Finger Lakes Region represents one of the truly
unspoiled vacation areas in the USA. Well known for its picturesque lakes,
wineries and lavish forests, the region offers many opportunities for
recreational activities.

The Native Americans believed the
Finger Lakes were formed when the Great Spirit reached out to bless the

Geologists report that the unique features of the area - the 11 long
narrow lakes lying side by side, the wide valleys and the deep gorges with
rushing waterfalls - were formed by the grinding action of Ice Age
glaciers. These geographical features are found nowhere else in the world.
The glacial sculpted area of Finger Lakes Travel Region is a haven for
outdoor enthusiasts.
Viewing scenery is probably the most favorite outdoor activity in this
region. The area is well known for some of the state's best scenery and
fishing opportunities and also includes the famous resort, Watkins Glen,
which is located along the shores of Seneca Lake.
Waterfalls and deep cool gorges abound. Bounded by Lake Ontario to the
north and the state of Pennsylvania to the south, the Finger Lakes also
offer a myriad of water-oriented sports including excellent fishing,
boating, sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. Camping opportunities,
multi-use trails, hunting, picnicking and winter sports prevail as well.
Because of the location and
climate there are dozens award-winning vineyards surrounding many of the
lakes, complete with wine-tasting tours for a relaxing weekend.
